Chapter History

Why we are named after Mount Vernon:

The piazza at Mount Vernon Estate, home of George Washington, is where the Mount Vernon Chapter NSDAR was organized on May 13, 1893. Our organizing regent was Miss Susan Riviere Hetzel. The five daughters of John Augustine Washington, the last private owner of Mount Vernon Estate, were all charter members of the Mount Vernon Chapter.

Each year members of our chapter visit the estate to lay a wreath on George Washington's tomb to honor his birthday and for other special events.
